This ultra-popular Ninebot e-scooter is embodied in a minimalist design, predominantly focused on performance and functionality. It is perfect for novice riders with its comfortably low average speed and keen focus on safety features.

The Ninebot factory has one of the highest production capacities, which has always been associated with good quality assurance, as seen in the build of the Kickscooter Max.

The Kickscooter Max has a beefy construction, and powerful motor. A product of the high-standard family of Segway’s Ninebot range, the Kickscooter Max is uncompromising on its quality build, ride efficiency, and impeccable design.

The scooter is outfitted with the entire range of Segway’s innovative features, including but not limited to an unrivalled app, Smart Battery Management System, Thumb throttle engage, under-deck battery housing, pneumatic tyres, and an easy fold mechanism.

Segway designed this as an efficient adult scooter, carrying an impressive weight capacity of 220 lbs.

The scooter outshines most similarly priced scooters with its fantastic range. The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max is not the most aesthetically pleasing electric scooter, but will appeal to minimalists with a selection between the stylish ice-white colour or the anthracite-grey.

The robust motor, quick-charge large battery, and three-speed-mode scooter, will definitely warrant the attention of riders that value functionality over appearance.

Kickscooter Max G30E Summary

The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max comes packed with essential features to optimise the user’s riding experience.

The scooter is one of the most popular releases from Segway and features in the higher budget category. It is superbly built for riding comfort, safety, and efficiency.

The Kickscooter Max has a unique, state-of-the-art App that gives riders access to their location, battery, range, and total mileage data. Segway also incorporated a nifty anti-theft feature in the form of a lock function on the app, which only starts to justify this scooter’s high price point.

Equipped with self-healing tyres, the Max electric scooter is a reliably maintenance-free means of commuting.

The scooter’s efficiency is furthered by its durable build, featuring rubberized handlebars, stable 10″ wide tyres, spacious anti-slip deck, and easy-control speed modes.

The Kickscooter Max is also a convenient commuting companion with easily one of the fastest folding mechanisms. While the handlebars do not retract, it is incorporated with a fully folding stem that affords users portability and storage convenience.

This electric scooter is safety-centric, as it incorporates a dual braking system with front mechanical disc brakes and an efficient electric regenerative braking system.

This feature also helps extend the scooter’s battery life.

For further reliance and security, it is equipped with a Smart Battery Management System that protects the battery from electrical faults. It also features an inbuilt headlight with a bright lighting profile for low-light riding. To supplement this, the scooter is also outfitted with a rear light and reflective strips embedded on the scooter’s sides.

The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max gives riders flexibility when riding with 3 ride modes to suit their style.

The 3 ride modes, Eco, Standard/Drive, and Sports, offer different levels of speed and power. Riders can reach top speeds of 18.6mph on Sport mode, powered by a powerful 350 Watt rear-mounted motor.

The Scooter can cover a 28 mile range on a single charge, with its 551Wh Generic Lithium Battery. At this speed and range, the scooter is ideal for beginners and joy cruisers.

Overall, the Ninebot Kickscooter Max is built to offer a convenient means of transport.

Segway equipped the scooter with innovative, fun, and functional features to deliver maximum value for your money. This unit is also made with the utmost consideration for the rider’s safety and the scooter’s durability. Read on for a further breakdown of the scooter’s impeccable features.

Performance Overview

The Ninebot Max G30E is one of Segway’s best electric scooters in terms of performance.

It is powered by a single 350 watt motor that propels the scooter to a max speed of 18.6 mph. It features three ride modes; which riders can set on the LED display panel by double-clicking on the power button.

The scooter is designed to easily tackle city rides, and light off-road terrain. It is able to tackle 20% climbing angle, thanks to the wide tyres and rear-mounted motor.

Additionally, the 10-inch pneumatic tyres offer one of the smoothest rides on city terrain.

They are designed with self-healing capability, which means that the scooter continues to move even after punctures. Real-world tests have shown the scooter to perform as advertised on flat, paved, urban terrain; while still delivering a decent performance on mildly upbeat terrain.

You would not think it, but this amazing e-scooter is also able to tackle light to medium off-road trails with ease.

However, if you are going on a very long ride, please be aware that this scooter is primarily an urban commuter, and the other heavy duty off-road e-scooters have significantly longer distance ranges.

Top Speed & Acceleration

A downside with the Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max is its lack of zippy acceleration.

Its acceleration is non-linear. However, it can reach 15 Mph within 5.4 seconds. For a high-budget scooter, the acceleration is not that impressive. It also lacks zero start mode, and users have to kickstart it till it hits 3 Mph before engaging the start button.

The 350 watts motor can propel the scooter to Max speeds of 18. 6 mph on flat terrain.

This speed pales in comparison to other scooters in its price range, most notably the EMOVE Touring and Apollo City e-scooters. The Max G30E has 3 ride modes that can be easily accessed on the intuitive LED dashboard; Eco, Standard, and Sports modes. They are activated depending on the rider’s preferences and the riding environment conditions, for instance, weather, rider weight, and available traction.

The scooter features a cruise control mode. Segway designed this to be activated by use of the efficient thumb throttle.

Pressing on the throttle for 10 seconds activates Cruise control, and the rider is informed by an audible alert. Cruise control speeds can be set on the app. However, it is important to note that riders will lose 1-2 mph of cruise control speed as the battery drains.

Notably, users report that the scooter speed will not go over 15.5mph when the battery level drops below 50%. But for city commuting, with all the traffic and obstacles to constantly be aware of, this should not be an issue.

 Battery Life & Range

The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max has a very reliable battery compared to other electric scooters.

This scooter’s battery is located under the deck, unlike its predecessors (ES2, 3) that carried it on the stem. The revolutionized battery has a capacity of 551Wh, giving the scooter enough juice for a range of 28 miles on a single charge.

Please note that Segway promotes this e-scooter as having an average range of 40 miles, but after a lot of testing and user reviews, we have to state our findings to be more on par with real world performance.

The Regenerative braking system extends the battery range by converting braking power into electrical energy that recharges the battery. On the scooter’s App, riders are able to manage the regenerative power by choosing between weak, medium, and strong settings.

The scooter has an efficient charging system and quickly charges the battery in 6 hours.

Segway prides itself in the scooter’s integrated charging system as one of the scooter’s loudest selling points. Unlike other e-scooters, the Ninebot Kickscooter Max only requires the charging cord and not the full-sized adapter.

This unique function is enabled by the scooter’s internally built adapter (internally built DC converter), which facilitates charging via the small phone-like charging cord. This cord is also relatively inexpensive, another plus for its efficiency.

The unit also comes equipped with the popular revolutionary intelligent battery management system that effectively manages its safe charging and usage.

Motor Configuration

The Max G30E scooter is powered by a single, rear-mounted 350 Watt motor, with an alloy hub encasing the motor for protection from the elements.

This casing is rated IPX7 which means you can ride your scooter in almost any weather condition. This really is an amazing selling point!

A 551Wh (36V, 15.3 Ah) Generic Lithium Battery powers the motor.

The motor further provides an impressive amount of torque that allows riders to tackle up to a 20% hill grade. It should, however, be noted that real-world results depend on the rider’s weight, the juice levels on the battery, the obstacle complexity on the trail, and the weather conditions.

The quick access throttle on the handlebar activates the motor, and drive modes can be set using the power button.

Construction & Build Quality

The Kickscooter’s frame is made from Aluminium and Acrylic.

This material is in part responsible for the scooter’s higher weight of 42lbs. The deck and handlebars are rubberized for easy grip. The back tyre carries the motor hub that is concealed by an alloy cover, while the front tyre houses the drum brake.

The handlebars feature a throttle, a brake lever, an LED display, and a knob that functions as a bell switch.

There are no visible wires on the handlebar of this scooter, as it has become part of Segway’s signature design. The scooter is simply designed without too much focus on aesthetics.

The scooter has a one-step folding mechanism, with an easy flip lever that opens and closes the locking clamp. The secondary locking mechanism on the stem is covered by plastic, which certain scooter owners have reported as overly fragile.

The scooter has an unfolded size of (L*W*H): 116.6 cm x 47.2 cm x 120.4 cm, while the folded size reduces the stem to 53.3 cm in height.

This is not the most compact size for a portable scooter, but the overall design features complement each other to allow for easy portability and storage. The scooter is generally durable and built to the high standards synonymous with Segway electric scooters.

Deck

The Ninebot Kickscooter Max’s deck comes at an impressive space of 19.8″ by 7″.

Like most modern e-scooters, the battery is housed underneath the deck, lowering the scooter’s centre of gravity and subsequently raising its stability. The scooter has an under-deck clearance of 3 inches. This is not the best clearance, especially when tackling off-road tracks or attempting an off-curb jump.

The deck is covered by an anti-slip rubber material that aids the rider’s grip and preserves the deck. The spacious deck is roomy enough for riders to adjust foot positioning, thus enhancing your riding comfort.

Tyres

The Ninebot Kickscooter Max has 10-inch pneumatic tubeless tyres. The tyres can take punctures of up to 6 millimetres due to their self-healing capability- this feature aids in light off-roading for the scooter by eliminating the worry of punctures.

The scooter lacks suspension, which is remedied by the pneumatic tyres that absorb a lot of the shock from bumpy roads, to offer a more comfortable ride experience. The tyres come filled with slime (pre-slimed), a feature that decreases chances of getting a flat.

As an added advantage, pneumatic tyres perform better in wet road conditions as compared to solid tyres. The scooter’s tyres also feature a tread pattern that’s designed to offer world-class traction.

Suspension

The Max electric scooter lacks suspension. The tyres absorb the impact when riding through bumpy terrain for safe and comfortable riding.

Braking

Segway didn’t want to gamble with the braking efficiency on this e-scooter.

They incorporated a dual brake system on the Ninebot Kickscooter Max to provide a superfluous and complementary braking system. The braking system offers precise stopping power.

The Ninebot Kickscooter Max can completely stop at 17.2 feet when going at a speed of 15 Mph. This is one of the outstanding features of this scooter.

The front wheel is equipped with drum brakes, while the rear wheel has a regenerative electronic brake.

It is noteworthy that the drum brakes are more durable, as they are well encased in the wheel, ensuring protection from weather elements. The brakes are activated by the left lever that controls the brakes at the front and rear wheels.

Ride Quality

Segway’s range of e-scooters offers uncompromised ride quality, and the Kickscooter Max is no exception.

The Scooter is reported to have one of the most stable stem bars, which allows for steady manoeuvring. The spacious deck plus long stem bar ensures a comfortable ride for riders over the age of 14, standing at 3”11 to 6’’6.

The ride comfort is predominantly provided by the 10″ pneumatic tyres, which more than make up for the scooter’s lack of suspension.

The scooter’s drive modes are customizable according to the rider’s experience, preference, and road conditions. A robust dual braking system also ensures that riders can cruise at preferred speeds without the worry of compromise on stopping ability.

An exciting feature adopted by Segway is the compulsory run-through of safety features on the first power-on.

Once engaged in Eco mode for the first ride, the scooter demands that users first go through the instruction manual on the app. This allows for enhanced safety.

Portability

The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max weighs close to 42lbs.

This is a little bit heavier than your average e-scooter, but still functions as portable. This scooter has an easy folding system that makes hauling around easy.

When folded, the stem clicks on a buckle located on the rear fender, making for a firm lock. The folded dimensions are not the most compact for a portable scooter, as the handlebars are non-retractable, which means that your scooter might not fit in restrictive spaces.

Lights

The Segway Ninebot sports a high-mounted front LED 2.5V light adjacently opposite the LED display.

This headlight has a 30-feet projection profile with strong illumination. The scooter also has a red LED brake light located on the rear fender. All these lights provide adequate visibility during low-light riding.

The Kickscooter Max has an additional lighting profile function control on the app.

This includes two options; pedestrian mode, which makes the tail light blink continuously, and tail light always-on mode, which leaves the rear light on. The headlight is powered by a single click of the power button once the scooter is switched on.

Controls & Display

The Ninebot Kickscooter Max has a fancy bright LED screen that displays essential data, such as – ride mode, speed, and battery power stats.

The display can be read under direct sunlight, and it auto dims at night when the front lights are switched on.

The mode, power, and lights functions are controlled by one single switch located below the display. However, you can download the mobile app and use it to control these features.

The app, which has Bluetooth capabilities, is available on both android and iOS and is vital as it provides the rider with riding data. It can also lock or unlock the scooter, activate and deactivate the cruise control, and it is also crucial in updating the firmware.

Water Resistance

The Ninebot Max has an IPX7 rating on the engine housing. While we definitely don’t recommend you try this, IPX7 means water submersion up to a metre!

The rest of the scooter body has an IPX5 rating. With this rating, the scooter can safely ride in light rain and manoeuvre through light puddles without the risk of getting water damage.

This is without a doubt really incredible water resistant ratings from any e-scooter manufacturer, and definitely a big reason why this scooter is so popular with urban commuters who live in countries with less than sunny weather conditions.

Warranty & Customer Support

The Segway Ninebot Max has a limited manufacturer’s warranty.

The scooter’s frame is guaranteed for 1 year, while other components such as the battery, charger, battery pack, and electronic parts have 180 days warranty. The components that are subject to easy wear (such as the hand grips) have a 90-day warranty.

Maintenance

The Segway Ninebot Max (like all e-scooters) requires regular maintenance for efficient performance.

That said, the device is designed to withstand harsh conditions, and therefore maintaining it will be a breeze. The motor is housed inside the rear wheel, which protects it from damage. The battery is also safely housed under the deck.

Practising sound maintenance procedures is prudent if you want your scooter to serve you for long. Make it a habit of wiping it dry after riding in the rain and charging it as recommended by the manufacturer.

Known Issues

Users report that the manufacture’s quoted range of 40 miles is not achievable in real-life testing.

We have addressed this with our tested numbers throughout this article.

Riders have also complained about the fragility of the plastic stem that covers the secondary folding stem. The red rear LED light has an unimpressive and almost pointless lighting profile.

Is the Ninebot Segway Kickscooter value for money, and is it worth buying?

Most definitely! The Ninebot Max offers decent range, reliability, and an incredibly high water resistant rating as its best-selling features.

With stability-enhancing 10″ wide tyres, a spacious deck for comfortable riding, uncompromised security enhancements, a durable frame, a strong motor and battery, an easy charging system, and its modern comprehensive app control, there’s little you’ll want more as a novice or expert rider.

You may, however, want to compromise on your speed expectations of the scooter, as it has a maximum speed profile of scooters at half its price point. However, this in no way negates all its other excellent properties, and the scooter, at under $800/ £580, remains a steal.
