INOKIM Quick 4 Electric Scooter Review

1 July 2021

With a range of 43 miles and top speed of 15.5 mph – what isn’t there to love?!

INOKIM is a Chinese manufacturer that has made waves in the electric scooter market with a specific focus on portability.

With their previous release of the INOKIM Quick 3 Super electric scooter, they put themselves on the map.

This model quickly generated popularity in the UK thanks to its unique design, high performing acceleration, folding mechanisms and mid range price.

With the 2020 release of the updated INOKIM Quick 4 Super, designed specifically for the commuter, can it compare to its predecessor?

Take a look at our detailed electric scooter.guide to see specifics, and decide for yourself.

Inokim Quick 4 – The Lowdown

The lightweight aluminum and carefully constructed frame make for a high quality build. The folding mechanisms function beautifully, with no stiffness and there’s a reassuring weight to the frame that stabilises you as you ride.

We do, however, have a few concerns. Firstly, we noticed a slight stem wobble during some of our test rides.

This was alarming, particularly when taking a sharp turn and caused some worries. However, once we got into the habit of firmly and completely pressing the stem clasp closed before every journey, the wobble noticeably subsided. Just be sure to do these checks before you ride.

We also noticed that whilst the  suspension and wheels do an excellent job of smoothing out your journey, things become a little less stable if you exceed 20mph.

Once you’re hitting those top speeds it can be jarring to not feel completely in control so whilst the INOKIM Quick 4 Super is arguably a great commuter scooter, we would not recommend it to novices or nervous riders.

Summary

An impressive scooter from a company known for making impressive scooters, we had a lot of great things to say about the INOKIM Quick 4 Super. The speed, range and effective suspension make this a great option for urban commuters.

Whilst the INOKIM Quick 4 Super certainly boasts style and premium features, it ultimately falls short of perfection with a short deck that affects general riding quality, and disconcerting stability when riding at high speed.

Performance Overview

The power contained in the INOKIM Quick 4 Super is excellent. With the single 600 watt motor providing a real kick, the electric scooter provides a decent amount of speed which can reach 25mph in its highest mode.

A quick note on steering. It’s a mixed bag honestly. The short deck and straight handlebar and bouncy suspension commit you to a narrow stance – similar to a skateboard. Whilst this tackles corners with aplomb, it sometimes results in overly-quick steering, which can actually be quite harrowing if you’re at top acceleration.

Top Speed & Acceleration

Advertising a top speed of 25mph, we found this to be a true time – though of course is dependent on rider weight, weather conditions and terrain. This can be achieved quickly, in just under 10 seconds and provides ample speed on an urban commute.

Hurtling down a well paved road at top speed is comfortable and thrilling, but those sharp turns can be alarming. We recommend slowing down to take corners with every scooter, but it’s particularly important here.

The acceleration of the INOKIM Quick 4 Super is impressive, but isn’t going to blow other scooters of its type out of the water (INOKIM’s OxO for example).

A test ride got us up to acceleration in just under 4 seconds which is very reasonable. There’s no lurch when the acceleration kicks in and the traction  continues to be smooth throughout.

Hill climbing is particularly impressive. It doesn’t exactly hurtle to the top of an incline, but the powerful torque handles your average slope with ease and you can continue to accelerate to the very top – a rarity in most electric scooters.

Controls & Display

The cockpit on the Inokim Quick 4 is pretty neat and users love how it’s all put together and how easy it is to use. It has red touches on the handlebars, textured handle grips, a bell and an LED display.

It features an LED screen in the middle of the handlebars which is easy to use. This will show you your speed and the battery charge that’s left as well. The brightness can be adjusted but it’s very easy to read without having to change this feature.

Battery Life & Range

We were pleased to see the large 52V Samsung 16Ah rechargeable battery included on the INOKIMQuick 4 Super. Samsung batteries are the premium brand and you can be assured of reliability and good battery life.

The range on the electric scooter is one of it’s great features.

For a commuter scooter its much more than could be expected. INOKIM advertise a 40 mile range, but to achieve this you would need to maintain a slow speed on very smooth terrain. We found a more realistic range of 30-35 miles, which is still more than we expected.

This means that commuters who have longer journeys can relax, knowing their electric scooter will deliver them to work safely and on time.

Something to think about, is just how long it takes to charge. With a minimum charge time of 7 hours, it’s a pretty big commitment, and isn’t going to be easy enough to charge up between journeys.

When you compare this to the shorter charge times achieved by other high end scooters (the Mercane Widewheel Pro takes 4 hours) it’s a bit of a let-down.

Motor Configuration

The motor configuration is well thought out on the INOKIM Quick 4 Super. Featuring a powerful 600W rear motor that delivers excellent torque from the rear of the scooter.

This contributes to the fantastic hill climbing performance and general mobility of the scooter, you may have to consciously readjust your weight distribution when you first start using it if you’re used to a front wheel motor.

Construction & Build Quality

Where to start?

The design of the INOKIMQuick 4 Super is certainly unique. It divided our reviewers with its striking looks. Some love it, praising the attention to detail and adaptations to a traditional frame.

Others simply thought it was ugly. But that doesn’t detract from the innovation implemented in the build. The design has been so carefully considered to optimise the features of the electric scooter that even those who weren’t keen on its looks, considered the design a huge success.

Most notably, The INOKIM Quick 4 Super has a very impressive cockpit. Featuring advanced built-in LED display  buttons to control  power, a robust thumb throttle, lights, and performance options and textured hand grips on the handlebars.

Everything has been fitted perfectly for ease of use, even whilst shooting down the road, and the additional rubber coating on each handlebar and brake levers won’t cause any friction to your hands.

The LED display is a hugely impressive feature on the INOKIM Quick 4 Super. It’s large and perfectly clear at any light level – and it measures a wide range of metrics as you ride. There isn’t an additional app to store your information.

Suspension

The INOKIM Quick 4 Super is widely regarded for its suspension setup, and with good reason.

Dual suspension has been added to maintain stability, and  when used in combination with the 10″ air filled tires create a very smooth ride, and even retains this light, comfortable riding experience on grass, or uneven paving giving you an overall sense of safety.

The high performance means you can technically hop on the INOKIM Quick 4 Super for a spot of off-roading if you like.

This adds to the versatility of the electric scooter, which is great considering the investment price, but the frame won’t really stand up to much of it, and the wheels are a little too nimble to adapt to mud and rocky terrain.

Ride Quality

As we said, the ride quality overall of the INOKIM Quick 4 Super is excellent.

INOKIM design products with a clear view of the selling points they want to hit, and this model certainly falls under the categories of speed and comfort.

The comfort is most noticeable if you swerve over a sudden bump on an otherwise smooth road. Some electric scooters will be thrown out of whack and you’ll feel the impact through the frame.

This is not the case with the INOKIM Quick 4, which maneuvers gently over cracks and crevices and cushions shock very well – which is very reassuring for a rider.

However, we were disappointed that the short deck does impact the quality of the ride more than we had hoped. You have to adapt your stance to accommodate the deck and this can impact your legs and knees as you ride. We found we felt stiff after riding for longer periods of time, which is a real shame considering the range offered.

Braking

Featuring responsive dual drum brakes, the INOKIM Quick 4 Super has a good braking distance of around 3.6 metres. It’s a particular strength of the model and contributes to the overall safety of the scooter.

The brakes are operated from the cockpit via levers on the handlebars. The brakes handles very well, with good modulation which means that even when braking at top speed, you shouldn’t skid.

The brake cables are external, but have been clamped to the stem to avoid snags or difficulty when folding.

That pesky short deck does, unfortunately, impact the experience slightly.

We found that to effectively and safely brake without coming off-balance, we had to tip our weight backwards slightly. This takes a little getting used to, can prove to be uncomfortable and you need to pay much more attention to your braking technique than you normally would with an electric scooter.

Portability

Portability has been a key focus in the design of the Inoki Quick 4 Super.

With a telescopic. collapsible stem that locks, foldable handlebars and a carry handle attached to the rear fender allowing you to carry it easily. All these additions contribute to a quick folding electric scooter that folds down to an easy to store 109 by 25 by 56 cm.

Despite all this dedication to portability, the scooter isn’t necessarily light. At 46 lbs it’s quite a weight and having to carry it up several flights of stairs or carrying it on your shoulders for a long period might be too much for some.

Water Resistance

There is no reported water resistance rating for the INOKIM Quick 4 which means that wet weather will ultimately damage the scooter.

This generally reduces the versatility of the electric scooter and is important to consider if you’re going to invest.

Lights

The INOKIM Quick 4 Super comes equipped with two button deck lights and a taillight mounted on the rear fender.

The lights are a little weak, but at least there are three of them. They will turn on automatically when it gets dark due to the light sensor in the LED display and you can also control different levels of brightness from the display.

We recommend additional lighting to give you optimum visibility if you choose to ride your electric scooter at night.

Tyres

The premium 10 inch air filled tyres on the INOKIM Quick 4 Super function beautifully. Mounted on split rims and with extra width, they support to cushion any impact and keep the scooter nimble whilst riding.

We particularly liked the grip, which helps maintain traction on both smooth roads and more uneven terrain.

The toss-up between air filled (pneumatic) and airless (solid tyres) is mainly in the maintenance of the wheels.

Solid tyres won’t get punctures, and as replacing tyres on an electric scooter can be difficult/costly, this is a bonus for many. We do, however, find that air filled pneumatics generally perform better than their solid counterpart. They have better grip, and mean that turns are easy to handle, keeping you light on your wheels.

Deck

What a shame. The deck really is a notable drawback on an otherwise excellent electric scooter design. It’s wide,  – 21.6 cm – but short – only 39.4 cm. Whilst this allows capacity for those in the upper weight limit for riders (220b) it seems like an oversight.

Not only does it limit potential riders due to shoe size, it actually detracts from some of the better features of the INOKIM Quick 4 Super.

Shifting your weight distribution to accommodate  and the stance you need to take requires focusing on your handling and braking in a way that newer riders may find intimidating. The stem also angles in towards the deck, giving you even less space.

The deck has two grip strips down it’s length to help maintain your grip. However, when you directly compare this to electric scooters with full grip pads and rubberised decks, it doesn’t stack up.

Reliability, Warranty & Customer Support

Aside from the above issues, we felt that the INOKIM Quick 4 Super was very reliable in most other categories. The speed, power, and range were consistent in our performance tests and the display in the cockpit was quick to note any changes in charge to give you plenty of notice so you wouldn’t be left stranded.

Maintenance

The INOKIM Quick 4 Super comes with a 12 month warranty which protects the frame and other elements.

This is excellent to know, as the very nature of scooters with air filled wheels and additional suspension means they will need regular check-ups and maintenance. The good news is that if you find a fault or major issue in the first year – you’re covered by INOKIM. With that said, you’ll need to be aware of additional shipping costs, especially to the UK.

Known Issues

There has been some reports of telescope stem collapsing while riding.

Accessories

There’s a wide variety of accessories available to purchase through the INOKIM website.

They even have sleek carry cases for sale. As standard, the INOKIM Quick 4 Super comes equipped with a kickstand, a bell, rubber casing on the handle bars and brake levers and you’ll receive a pump and multi-tool for maintenance in the box. Once again, beware of additional shipping if ordering to the UK.

Is this Electric Scooter value for money and is it worth buying?

Overall, the Inokim Quick 4 cannot be knocked for the range, speed and portability it offers – all of these are brilliant and we just can’t fault this scooter based on this!

It does have a slower speed but other factors make up for what it lacks. When it comes to speed, the faster you go on this electric scooter you will actually feel less stable as it become wobbly.

The small deck size can also make you feel like you might slip off when braking as this seems to be a common issue that all users are experiencing and usually the main negative point about the scooter.

However, the overall look of the bike, the range it offers and some of the features balance out the negative of the smaller deck.
